Get ready to scavenge, craft, and survive. Engines of Fury is here. This post-apocalyptic action RPG and roguelike hybrid has officially entered Early Access on the Epic Games Store.

As someone who’s spent a few runs exploring its wasteland, Engines of Fury strikes that sweet spot between loot-driven ARPGs like Diablo and the risk-reward tension of Escape from Tarkov.

If you love min-maxing builds, managing supplies, and the thrill of escaping a deadly map with just enough loot to make it worth the run... this might be your next obsession.

Exploring the Apocalyptic World

Action RPG Meets Roguelike Chaos

The first thing to know about Engines of Fury is that it doesn’t hold your hand.
You start each run barehanded, scavenging whatever scraps and weapons you can find. Ammo is extremely limited, so resource management quickly becomes a survival skill. You’ll need to make every shot count. Running out of bullets mid-run is almost guaranteed death.

There's also a limited field of view for your player. Expect monsters lurking behind obstacles. Be ready to shoot on sight.

Field of View is limited in tight spaces

Every weapon feels distinct. You’ll find differences in:

  • Damage output
  • Magazine size
  • Range and reload speed

As the monsters scale up in size and aggression, your arsenal needs to evolve too. There’s a satisfying sense of progression when you finally craft that upgraded shotgun or perfect your sniper loadout.

Boss battle early in the game

The game's control is currently limited to Mouse + Keyboard. There isn't any information about Gamepad controls yet.

Visuals and Atmosphere

The game’s aesthetic is a gritty blend of dieselpunk and sci-fi. Environments feel worn yet alive: metallic ruins, glowing reactors, and mutated creatures lurking in the shadows. Combined with its tight camera angles and cinematic lighting, it captures that tense, claustrophobic energy that roguelike fans crave.

The mission story lines are portrayed via intercoms with other survivors. Complete more missions to ensure the survival of your group.

Loot or Lose It

Looting is the heartbeat of Engines of Fury. Each fallen enemy has a chance to drop materials, ammo, or rare resources that can later be used to craft and upgrade gear.

Player's equipment and Inventory

But here’s the twist: if you fail to extract, you lose everything you've collected. The game’s extraction mechanic is brutal but rewarding. Finding the exit point and surviving long enough to reach it is what separates rookies from survivors.

This risk-reward loop makes every expedition meaningful. Each run becomes a gamble.

Your Hideout: The Heart of Progression

Once you extract successfully, you’ll find yourself back at your Hideout, a run-down underground bunker that acts as your base of operations.

The hideout

Your base of operations is where you make preparations to explore the outside world. There are machines in your hideout to help your progress in the game.

  • Generator: This is the heart of your base. You'll need fuel to power up all other machines. Glob of Fuel can be obtained from your exploration or crafted from Mutant Meat.
Glob of Fuel is turned into energy in the Generator
  • Recycler: To obtain resources to craft tools & weapons, you first need to scrap for raw materials. Junk found while exploring can be turned into raw materials in the Recycler.
Recycle all your junk in the Recycler
  • Precision Assembler: Craft new tools and equipment here so that you're better prepared for exploration.

  • Private Stash: Store all your items here so that you don't lose them if you don't make it back from exploration
Keep your excess items in your Private Stash
  • Trading Station: The Web 3 integration is mostly from this machine. Trade items using the in-game currency ALLOY or the onchain currency FURY
Gold can be sold in the Trading Station for ALLOY
  • Other Unlockable Machines: not all machines are usable straightaway when you start. You'll need to craft your way up to unlock more.
Materials are required to construct the Mini Factory
  • Comms Station: The station is where you progress the game. Select Missions to be performed and select the map to explore

Over time, you'll be upgrading the hideout itself, unlocking new functionalities and workstations. What starts as a shabby bunker soon turns into a fully equipped survival hub.

Leveling Up with Medusa Cells

Progression in Engines of Fury goes beyond just gear. During missions, you’ll collect rare Medusa Cells, which are used to unlock skills in your character’s skill tree.

These permanent upgrades give you new abilities and stat boosts, encouraging experimentation with different playstyles. Abilities are lost if you are eliminated while exploring, giving you a progressive upgrade the more abilities you have unlocked.

Skill Tree that requires Medusa Cells

Expect players to find broken combos and unique builds as the meta develops.
Want to go full tank? Spend your Medusa Cells on defense and regen. Prefer a high-risk, high-damage approach? Pour them into unique offensive abilities.

Co-op Play and Future Maps

The early access build focuses on solo play, as co-op functionality is not available. Although you can still team up with your friends if you're on the same map. Be warned, friendly fire is always on. Expect most players to shoot on sight.

The world design already hints at larger zones and story expansions, so if you’re looking for longevity, this isn’t just a one-and-done title. Engines of Fury is clearly built with long-term progression and community-driven content in mind.

Web3 Integration

If you're wondering about the web3 integration, when you start playing, you should stumble upon the Trading Stations. There, you'll see ALLOY & FURY

  • ALLOY is the central in-game "soft" currency asset. Its entire existence and utility are contained within the Engines of Fury in-game ecosystem.

  • FURY is the on-chain token available on Immutable. The token helps your in-game progress and levelling up your skills. It is designed to support convenience, access, and advanced gameplay features within the game’s economy.

The core economic loop of the game is to upgrade your base and gear to dominate the game. Essentially, you'll be exploring to collect loot, which in turn will become materials and currencies for you to get better upgrades for exploration.

Tips & Tricks for Getting Ahead

There’s currently $1,000,000 FURY tokens up for grabs in Engines of Fury in the first month, and competition in the wasteland is heating up fast. Whether you’re scavenging solo or teaming up with friends, these essential tips will give you a strong head start in your journey to survive and thrive.

1. Always Use the Map

Press M to open the map and get your bearings. The longer you stay in a zone, the more signals and points of interest will appear, revealing loot caches, extraction zones, or lurking enemies.

Blue is shown for the extraction points, while red is for hostiles

However, remember this crucial detail: the game doesn’t pause when you open your map. Monsters can still ambush you while you’re plotting your next move, so make sure to find a safe corner before pulling up your navigation.

2. Always Pick Up Globs of Fuel and Mutant Meat

Whenever you’re exploring, never skip over Globs of Fuel and Mutant Meat. These two resources are vital for powering your base and crafting upgrades back at the Hideout.

Mutant Meat is dropped by Monsters

They’re lightweight and take up virtually no inventory space, so there’s really no reason to leave them behind. Consider them your bread and butter for every successful expedition.

3. Scavenging vs Missions - Know Your Purpose

There’s a big difference between going on a scavenging run and a mission run:

  • Scavenging: You’ll be grabbing everything you can find. But keep in mind that a full inventory slows you down, making it harder to dodge or escape from monsters. Always keep track of where the extraction point is located. Plan quick exits if your pack starts to weigh you down.
  • Missions: Focus on objectives and ammunition, not junk. Prioritize what you truly need for the task at hand. Every wasted second rummaging through scrap could be the difference between extraction and death. Never pick up junk when you're focused on completing missions
Holding a full inventory reduces your movement speed

Understanding the intent of your run helps you manage both risk and rewards efficiently.

4. Know What You’re Collecting

Not all junk is created equal. When scavenging, keep an eye out for items that break down into key crafting materials: Aluminum, Steel, and Glass Fibers. These are the main components used for upgrading your base and improving your long-term survivability.

Aluminum is produced from recycling Soda Cans

By focusing on these materials early, you’ll accelerate your base upgrades, allowing for faster crafting, stronger weapons, and better defenses down the line.
