If you’ve been exploring Gigaverse, you’ve probably noticed the buzz around its latest limited-time event, the new Fishing Competition.
After spending a few hours reeling in digital fish myself, here’s everything you need to know about how it works, how to climb the ranks, and a few tips that might give you an edge.
What Is the Gigaverse Fishing Competition?
The Fishing Competition is an in-game event where players can fish for Limited-Edition Fish to get on top of the leaderboards and win rewards.
It’s open to everyone. There's no level requirement, and no long grind is needed before you can participate. Once you log into Gigaverse, you can start fishing right away.
Rewards You Can Win
The prizes are split into tiers based on your leaderboard ranking:
- Gold Medal: #1 player
- Silver Medal: #2-#10 players
- Bronze Medal: #11–#100 players
- Wood Medal: #101-#2000 players
The 1st-place winner will receive a ChimpersHQ NFT, and there are chances to earn ROMs, making this event one of the more rewarding community competitions so far.

How Fishing Works in Gigaverse
Fishing in Gigaverse isn’t your typical “click and wait” experience; it’s an active minigame with spells, mana management, and predictive grid combat.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Start with a deck of spells and mana.
Each spell uses mana and creates hitboxes on a small grid. - Predict where the fish will move next.
The trick is timing your casts to land where the fish will be, not where it is. - Hit the fish with your spells.
Land successful hits to weaken and catch it. - Sell your catches to upgrade skills.
Visit Tonno, the vendor, to sell your fish, earn currency, and improve your fishing efficiency.
It’s simple at first, but mastering it takes some pattern recognition and planning, especially if you want to compete for those top spots.
My First Day Fishing: Early Impressions
On the first day of the competition, I managed to catch 3 Chimpus. It felt great until I checked the leaderboards and saw the top player already had 13.
The competition is fierce. With everyone gunning for those top spots, you’ll need to fish efficiently and optimize every cast if you want to stand a chance.
That’s where the right gear setup comes in.
How to Get an Edge: Best Gear and Strategy
1. Phin’s Rod: The Best Rod for Fishing
If you’re serious about ranking high, Phin’s Rod is an investment that may be worth the risk. It gives you access to better spells right from the start, letting you cover more grid space and react faster to fish movement.
With Phin’s Rod, you have more flexibility to experiment and hit multiple zones, increasing your odds of a successful catch.
2. Use Lure Gear for Dual Yielding
A new gear type: the Lure. It was recently added to Gigaverse, and it’s a game-changer.
- Equipping a Lure adds a Dual Yielding chance, meaning you can potentially catch two fish in a single cast.
- The first Lure available is the Pengu Lure, which you can craft using Gigapengus at the Workbench, then equip it at the Gear Station.
If you’re grinding for the top spots, this bonus yield can make a noticeable difference over time.

🎮 Final Verdict
Even if you’re not aiming for the top, it’s still a fun and rewarding side activity, especially with the added depth from new gear types like rods and lures. If you enjoy competitive mini-events and strategic gameplay, this is your time to shine.
