I'm excited to share that I finally received the Gothies deckbuilding card game!
I backed it on Kickstarter earlier in 2023. It's been a while since I've funded a Kickstarter project, so it was fun to get my hands on the actual box.
The theme of Gothies is a mix of Tim Burtonesque aesthetics and cute plushie-like characters. I love the way the cards are designed, and the land cards really help to bring the Gothies world to life.
Each box comes with 162 cards, printed instructions, and cardboard tokens. This is enough for a 1- or 2-player game. If you want to play with 3 or 4 players, you'll need to buy two separate boxes.
One thing I'm not quite happy with is the quality of the print. The dark theme of the cards doesn't quite show up as well as it could. It's hard to distinguish between true black and dark colors on print. It was easier to distinguish the colors in the digital cards shown on the website.
Despite this, I'm still enjoying the game. The gameplay is simple to learn but challenging to master. There are a lot of different strategies you can use, and the game is always changing as you add new cards to your deck.
I'm also excited about the Gothies IP as a whole. The creator, Maurice Kimball, has a lot of other plans for the world of Gothies. This includes an animated TV series, digital collectibles, and gaming-related stuff.
